What is a fifty cent coin?

The fifty cent coin shows George Kruger Gray's iconic Ram's Head design which was used on One Shilling coins between 1938 and 1963. Unlike earlier commemorative fifty cent coins, the commemorative design is on the obverse, while the reverse has the traditional Coat of Arms design.

What is the obverse of a fifty cent coin?

It is unusual in that the Obverse of the coin has a miniature Ian Rank-Broadly Queens Head and a representation of an Australian One Shilling coin as issued between 1953 to 1964. The Reverse of the coin is the same as a standard definitive Fifty Cent coin This coin was issued into circulation via Mint Rolls and sealed Mint Bags.

Are Australian 50 cent coins rare?

So sadly most Australian 50 cent coins are anything but rare. It’s worth having a look at the mintages of the commemorative 50 cent coins up until 2000 and the catalogue values of an uncirculated example (there have been a spate of them since then, and I don’t think it’s worth covering them).
